Bray Wanderers have named Alan Mathews as their new manager ahead of the 2014 season.

The Seagulls have been without a gaffer since legendary manager Pat Devlin left the club last month.

Mathews now has less than two month to put an entire squad together as Bray travel to Limerick on the 7th of March.

Club General Manager Jack O’Neill welcomed his new manager, paid tribute to the previous management team and revealed there will be a number of other announcements to follow from the Carlisle Grounds in the coming weeks.

“We are delighted that Alan Mathews has taken on this role and this will be one of a number of announcements that the club will be making in the coming weeks. We would like to welcome both Alan and Barry back to the club and would like to wish both of them every success for the coming season.

"On behalf of the club we would like to thank Pat Devlin and his backroom team for the marvellous service that they have given to Bray Wanderers since our entry into the League of Ireland in 1985.”

Mathews also spoke to the official website after committing to the club for the coming season.

“I am delighted to have been given this exciting opportunity and look forward to commencing pre-season training. There are a lot of good people at this football club and both Barry O’Connor and I will put all our energy and commitment into having a successful season in 2014.”
