Republic of Ireland U21 international Jack Byrne will be involved with the senior squad in a training capacity in the coming weeks.

The Manchester City midfielder is currently on loan at Dutch side Cambuur. He’s scored twice in 20 Eredivisie appearances.

Following an impressive display over Feyenoord he was named in the Team of the Week. The Boys in Green host Switzerland on March 25th, before taking on Slovakia on March 29th at the Aviva Stadium.

He’s not in Martin O’Neill’s provisional squad for the upcoming friendlies, but the U21 squad will train with the senior squad so he'll get some experience of mixing with the group.

O’Neill believes Byrne has got a big future ahead of him:

Damien Delaney's mooted return hasn't materialised. The Crystal Palace defender was reportedly considering a comeback.

He had previously made himself unavailable for selection, after a dispute thought to be centered on game time. Alan Pardew paved the way for a possible comeback last month.

"I think he would, I think he is big enough and bold enough to swallow his pride and do the right thing," the Crystal Palace manager told The Sunday Times.

His team mate Scott Dann also weighed in saying: "I'm sure deep down he would want to play at the Euros. He's playing week in, week out in the Premier League and he is playing well."

"He's good enough to play for Ireland he's shown that, If he was asked the question I know what the answer would be"

Pardew's pronouncement seemed to open the door for a return, but it was promptly slammed shut by Martin O'Neill today:
