Katie Taylor's next opponent, Amanda Serrano, has announced on social media that their upcoming bout in Manchester has been postponed.

It was widely expected that the super fight between Taylor and Amanda Serrano, due to take place on May 2, would be postponed like all other major sporting events due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The former seven-weight world champion from Puerto Rico took to Twitter last night to announce the news.

"To all my fans that keep asking me YES! my May 2nd fight has been postponed, a new date to be announced soon," Serrano tweeted.

"It has Nothing to do w/myself or my opponent Everyone knows the Critical Crisis we are in. This Covid-19 is serious, please be safe out there. God bless us all."

Taylor was due to put her undisputed lightweight crown on the line against Serrano as part of the Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin heavyweight title card.

Promoter Eddie Hearn conceded last week that they had contingencies in place for his May cards, which could see them moved to June.

The Matchroom Boxing boss is due to make an official announcement on Monday.

"We'll make an announcement on Monday about Dillian Whyte, the Cardiff show in May [9] and Chisora-Usyk - May 23", Hearn said during an Instagram Live Q&A.

Taylor was keen to get the message out regarding social distancing last week.

"In boxing controlling the space and distance to your opponent is one of the keys to victory," Taylor tweeted.

"Now to keep the COVID-19 virus at bay it's vital we all practice social distancing to help flatten the curve and protect ourselves and our loved ones. We are all in this fight together."

Meanwhile, British NHS staff will be given free tickets to Anthony Joshua's next heavyweight world boxing title fight against Kubrat Pulev.

Hearn has pledged to donate 200 tickets to health service workers for each of his major events over the next year.

He says it's to thank them for their "absolutely amazing" work in dealing with Covid-19.
