Henry Shefflin Confirms Retirement

Henry Shefflin has retired from inter-county hurling.

The Kilkenny legend announced his decision at a press conference in Kilkenny City this afternoon.

He spoke of his “deep sense of gratitude and personal contentment” at his decision, which was widely expected.

Shefflin is broadly seen as one of the greatest hurlers of all time, claiming a record 10 All-Ireland winners medals, 13 Leinster titles and 5 National Leagues in his 16 years with the Cats.

He also won a record 11 All Stars and the Hurler of the Year on 3 occasions.

Shefflin thanked Kilkenny manager Brian Cody for the “huge role” he played in his career.

He also confirmed he will continue to play with his club, Ballyhale Shamrocks, who claimed the All-Ireland club title last week.

His former teammate JJ Delaney, who himself only retired over the winter, said Henry was the complete player:
