Dublin defender Michael Carton is stumped as to what went wrong for the hurlers this year.

The Boys in Blue were well beaten by Tipperary in the All-Ireland quarter-finals just weeks after their heavy defeat in the Leinster final against Kilkenny.

Carton was asked by 98FM Sport after the game, if he could put his finger on what went wrong.

"No I don't think anyone can. You think the preparation is all done but you have to go out and want the ball. We didn't want the ball enough out there. The Tipp lads outfought us for every ball and it's just not good enough."

Carton admitted that this year's disappointment represented a step back for Dublin after last year's unforgettable Leinster Championship success but he remains optimistic looking ahead to 2015.

"Every year you step on to the field you want to go forward, we went one step backwards this year. It's a very young team, we'll come back stronger next year but we've a lot to work on."
