There has been a slight drop in the number of homeless people in emergency accommodation last month - but there was a rise in Dublin.

8,702 adults and children were provided with urgent assistance across the country - down 26 from July.

However, Dublin's figure rose by 22, to 6,227.

Hopefully The Drop Isn't A False Hope - Flynn

The chief executive of Inner City Helping Homeless, Anthony Flynn, says that was very concerning.

"Any reduction in the homeless figures is positive."

"I accept that we may have seen a reduction in the last two or three months particularly in line with the eviction ban."

"We have seen a slight increase in number of people that are homeless, in particular adults in Dublin.

"But the eviction ban has been lifted and I'd be very tentative that this isn't a false dawn in regard to the figures, as we head into the winter months."
