The group tasked with trying to manage the homeless crisis in Dublin is being criticised for not doing enough to shelter rough sleepers from stormy weather.

Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to lose most of its power and be downgraded by the time it reaches Irish shores late this Thursday.

Met Eireann is preparing to issue orange, and possibly red, storm warnings.

The Dublin Region Homeless Executive said it is "confident" it will be able to find enough temporary beds for anyone who needs them.

It is asking Dubliners to alert it to anyone sleeping rough during the stormy weather.

They can fill in an online form at this link.

The DRHE said "arrangements are in place with service providers to put in place additional temporary accommodation across a range of existing services".

However, one charity said that promise alone is not enough.

Inner City Helping Homeless has called the contingency plan "insufficient".

Spokesperson Anthony Flynn said:

"We're still going to have up to 170 people on the streets because we just can not get the access to beds that are required".
