Republic of Ireland under 21 international Troy Parrott is set to sign a new contract with Tottenham.

The Dubliner, who is 18 today (Tuesday), signed his first professional contract with Spurs exactly one year ago.

Parrott has made two first-team appearances this season, one under Mauricio Pochettino and the second under current boss Jose Mourinho.

He was not involved for the Tottenham under 23's this week, which means he might make the matchday squad for Wednesday night's FA Cup fourth-round replay against Southampton.

The Irish teenager trains with the first team on a regular basis but he's unlikely to get much game time between now and the end of the season.

Mourinho is without his best striker Harry Kane and the Spurs boss is always quick to remind people that he has no recognised senior striker.

Mourinho said last month that Parrott can become a big player for Spurs in the future but for now he wants the Dubliner to work a lot harder to get his chance.

It's believed Parrott was keen on a loan move in January because he is not playing much football.

A loan move next season may not happen either because Parrott would become a homegrown player in February 2021 after spending two years as a professional at Spurs but only if he doesn't break the two-year spell with a loan move.
