Gardai and the AA are warning female drivers travelling alone to be vigilant when stopping on secluded roads. It's after a number of shocking attacks around the country in recent months.
In one case, it's reported a woman in her 40s was injured during a vicious assault in Co. Waterford. According to the Irish Independent, an object was thrown at her car causing her to stop. She was then pinned to the bonnet and told not to look while a man with an Eastern European accent rummaged in her car.
In another case in Co. Cork, a woman was held at knife-point before her vehicle was stolen. The paper says the nasty trend can also involve a staged accident so people will stop.
The AA says it's very concerned about the pattern and is urging women to lock their doors if they need to come to a stop on the roadside.
