Things are on the up for Dublin pubs which are reporting a significant boost in trade, according to a leading expert in the sector.

It comes as two of the biggest bar groups in the country merge. The Mercantile owns Whelan's, Opium and the South William Bar amongst others, as well as restaurants like The Green Hen and Pichet. Capital Bars is known for The George, Howl at the Moon and Cafe on Seine.

John Ryan from the commercial property company CBRE says the market is returning to a more normal footing as the recovery takes hold.

However he says there is still a journey to go - to return to the highs of the Celtic Tiger era
