Turkey is lifting its ban on three letters of the alphabet.

It's been illegal to use the letters X, W and Q since the early nineties.

They had been banned because they were used a lot in the Kurdish language.

It was illegal to speak the Kudish language in public in Turkey until around 20 years ago.

Critics of the law say it's become redundant because so many modern Turkish words are borrowed from English and use the banned letters.
