Trinity is setting up an interest-free repayment scheme for more than 500 students it accidentally under-charged.

The college is owed around €1.7m in fees from people who applied for SUSI grants, but didn't get them.

Normally students who owe the College money cannot progress, get exam results or graduate.

Trinity College has assured those affected that they will not be penalised for being in debt to the college.

Shane DeReece, President of Trinity's Student Union, says most of those affected owe less than €3000.

"We have been assured by the college that if a student's circumstances have changed since the unpaid fees were due, that a longer repayment plan" can be arranged.
