Trinity College has launched an investigation into another alleged initiation ceremony.

The University Times reported the details of the ceremony for an all-male, invite-only, sporting society.

The article, printed on Friday, detailed what reporters heard during the so-called "hazing".

Members were allegedly heard being told to "bend over", "get in the shower" and "open your f*****g mouth".

The paper also reported that groaning, gagging and retching sounds were heard coming from the apartment.

One member was allegedly overheard saying "It's going to be a long night, boys".

The University Times admitted a recording device was left outside, but stands by its methods.

UT Editor, Eleanor O'Mahony, likened it to the Áras Attracta investigation on RTE's Prime Time.

She said they want "to expose hazing and secret societies, which has never been done before".

A campus petition has now been launched, calling for the paper to lose its college funding.

Trinity Initiation Scandals

It's not the first time Trinity has hit headlines for so-called "hazing" ceremonies.

The President of Trinity's Student Union, Shane De Rís, said:

"It's something that passed on from year to year, it's generational, and needs to be addressed".

He insisted the college investigation isn't just focusing on the paper, but "on the initiation ceremony as well".

Shane described the initiation ceremonies as "very out-dated" and said they "don't have a place in society".

Trinity said its investigation, which is being conducted by the Junior Dean, is continuing.

It's looking into both the initiation and the use of secret recording by the college paper.
