According to the Irish Independent, the HSE has given the go-ahead for hospitals to offer 15 hundred permanent roles.
It's one of a range of measures to tackle the overcrowding crisis.
The Health Minister insists there's a plan in place to alleviate overcrowding in emergency departments after yesterdays meeting with nurses.
It includes the opening of 300 more hospital beds from November, and extending the range of home care packages to stop bed blocking.
It comes as the executive of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation sits down to consider balloting members on industrial action over the crisis.
