A third of all secondary schools in this country are selling junk food to students.

New research by the Department of Education reveals that 310 secondary schools admit to selling fizzy drinks, crisps and sweets from their tuck shops.

In a clampdown on obesity The Sunday Times is launching a campaign aimed at teenagers called 'junk the junk'

The campaign, supported by nutritionists and doctors, is aimed at the 730 secondary schools in Ireland.

However, The Sunday Times believe the Department of education is slow to ban sugary treats as vending machines generate approximately 1.3 million euro a year in income for schools.
