A consultant at a busy Dublin hospital is giving a cautious welcome to new daily targets for emergency departments.
The plan, which aims to tackle hospital overcrowding, proposes a 'zero tolerance' for patients waiting more than 9 hours for a bed.
The new targets were agreed at a meeting of the emergency department implementation group yesterday.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has welcomed the revised policy to deal with ED overcrowding.
