Some Dublin Bus, Luas Irish Rail and Bus Eireann fares are going up. From December, a range of cash and Leap fares for Dublin Bus will rise by no more than 15 cent, while some Luas journeys will also cost more.
The National Transport Authority, which has the power to set fares, admits it is "conscious of the cost of travel", but needs to revise fares to help provide "fast, reliable, punctual, convenient and affordable" services.
Dublin Bus
- Cash fares increasing by up to 15 cent
- Leap adult fare for 4 to 13 stages will increase by 10 cent to €2.15
- Other adult Leap and cash fares up by up to 5.6% and schoolchild Leap up 1 cent.
- Lowest child fare increases by 5 cent
- Nitelink, ramblers, monthlies & annuals up 1.4% to 2.0%
- City centre fare to be withdrawn by end January 2018
Luas
- New city centre off-peak €1 fare to celebrate CrossCity line
- New evening peak from 4pm to 7pm and extend the morning peak from 07am to
10am - Increase adult single fares by up to 5%
- Increase 1-day, 7-day and 30-day fares by up to 5%
- Monthly and annual up by 10% to €110 and €1,100 respectively
Irish Rail
- Short Hop Zone fares increase by between 0% and 4.6%
- Short Hop Zone and intercity Taxsaver fares increase by 0.5% to 1.6%
- Most intercity express single fares reduced by 5%
- Some economy 2 single and return fares increase by average 1.2%
- Intercity adult and child weekly up average of 1.2%
Passengers are being reminded that if their cash fare is increasing, that increase can probably be cancelled-out by switching to a Leap fare instead.
The National Transport Authority, has also announced a €1 city centre off-peak fare for Luas passengers, to celebrate the opening of the Cross City Line.
