It's believed that the gang responsible for Friday's shooting at the Regency Hotel in Whitehall had planned an attack on the National Stadium.
The gang killed drug trafficker David Byrne and injured two others at a boxing weigh-in at the hotel on Friday afternoon.
The attack was reportedly aimed at wiping out a number of members of the Christy Kinahan gang, as revenge for the murder of the nephew of Gerry "The Monk" Hutch last year.
According to the Irish Independent, the gunmen had originally planned to open fire at the National Stadium on Saturday night.
Armed gardaí are now patrolling the city over fears of revenge attacks, while an international manhunt continues.
At least six people are believed to have been involved in the shooting.
