The search for an 81 year old Finglas man missing since last week is widening.

Thomas Kennedy was last seen putting out the bins at his home in Virginia Park at around 9pm on Tuesday evening.

Wexford, Wicklow and Meath have been searched as volunteers try to track him down.

His daughter in law Claire explains why the search was widened:

"He used to have his holidays down in Arklow so we got people to keep an eye out down there in case he decided to take another holiday this year and not tell us. We now know that he has his bus pass with him so that's why we're literally asking all of Ireland just to keep an eye out for him."

Claire says the Civil defence have also been out with the help of Max the search dog.

"They've been using Max who was bought by the Peggy Mangan Foundation and he's been out every single day. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to find anything, pick up Tommy's scent anywhere."

Jen is one of the search volunteers, she says there are groups meeting tonight to look for Thomas.

"From today, we've set up the outreach service and now we're feeding into Ballymun, Cabra, Blanchardstown and Baldoyle so we're pleading for people from those areas to come out and search from 6pm onwards."

Tony Byrne is the local scout leader, he’s made an emotional appeal to scout leaders everywhere to help find one of their own.

"He was a Beaver leader, he was an assistant commissioner for Beavers, he put a lot of time into the kids when he was here and I'm now appealing to any scout leaders out there nationally to come out and look. It doesn't matter an hour, half an hour, we need to get him back."

The group have a facebook page, Missing Persons Thomas Kennedy, where the times and meeting points for tonight’s searches are posted.
