A cycle lane through the middle of the Phoenix Park is under review.

At present, the cycle lane on Chesterfield Avenue runs beside the road on both sides.

However, the Office of Public Works is looking into switching it with the main footpath which is further inland between rows of trees.

The current layout in the middle of the Phoenix Park means pedestrians often walk in the cycle lane by mistake while buses often cross the path to get to some attractions.

According to The Times Ireland Edition, the design has come under fire from cycling groups and they're lobbying for the switch.

Lighting along the avenue is a cause of concern with the Dublin Cycling Campaign saying a lot of bikers won't use it if the lane moves further inland.

The OPW, which runs the Phoenix Park, confirmed to the paper that the layout is under review.
