The Environment Minister wants to use some of Dublin City Council's property tax to fix the fire trap apartments at Longboat Quay.
As the largest local authority in the country, Alan Kelly's officials believe it has the funding available to help with a 4 million euro repairs bill.
Minister Kelly met with the Docklands residents yesterday to try to come up with a solution to the scandal.
During the meeting at Leinster House, they told Alan Kelly that the DDDA and the receiver of Longboat Quay has not offered to cover €2.75M of the €4M cost as had been claimed.
Michael Ingle, an owner and a member of the management committee, said "this is not a problem of our making. The DDDA and receiver are responsible and it is up to them to come forward with a solution".
They said the minister was 'helpful', despite not offering any State funds, and said he was going to 'crack some heads' to get the problem solved.
Meanwhile owners at the block say they'll take court action if they're forced to pay for fire safety works.
