Dublin City Council has agreed to fly the Palestinian flag for a week in an act of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

The motion was agreed unanimously at last night’s council meeting, and the flag will be flown for seven days from today.

It was the second attempt to have the flag flown after an earlier bid failed.

Independent Group leader Councillor Cieran Perry said he was delighted with the support for the motion, and called again for an immediate ceasefire.

"Over 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the indiscriminate attacks begin. More than 6,000 of the victims have been children. This slaughter must stop, we reiterate our call for an immediate ceasefire and for the release of humanitarian aid into Gaza."
