Plans by Trinity College to build student accommodation on Pearse Street have been slammed.

An Taisce and the city council have concerns, and one former graduate's branded it a monstrosity.

Last year the university put forward plans to redevelop Oisin House which is currently used by the Department of Social Protection.

It wants to demolish the five storey block and replace it with student accommodation made up of 278 units.

But heritage group An Taisce says that would be at the expense of an area of huge architectural and historic importance.

Dublin City Council's concerned about the height of the building, while a former graduate says a number of ex students are threatening to pull out of fundraising, if the development in its current form goes ahead.
