A new cafe has opened up on the Northside aimed at young people living in or at risk of homelessness.

The facility on Berkeley Street will work with children and those aged 18 to 25 and is being run by the Peter McVerry Trust.

When you look at the outside of this new youth cafe, it looks like the entrance to an office but when you walk through the door it’s something different.

The open plan room is bright and quite colourful, TV’s on the wall, a seating area, kitchen, and computers to help with things like finding accommodation.

They also have showers, washing machine and storage lockers to keep belongings safe.

Pat Doyle from the Peter McVerry Trust says it gives people who’re in hostels or wandering the streets a place to go to during the day.

The trust are putting on dedicated nights for young people in homelessness, Pat says they’ll have a number of events targeting those vulnerable groups.

While the cafe on Berkeley Street close to the Mater is primarily aimed at young people – the Trust say they won’t turn away any homeless person looking for help.
