Sean McGovern, a man suspected of being one of the leaders of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group, spent last night in prison after his extradition from Dubai.
The 39-year-old, formerly of Kildare Road, Crumlin, Dublin, was brought back to Ireland on a military aircraft to face a murder charge.
He was arrested in Dubai last October and extradited back to Ireland yesterday, arriving at Casement Aerodrome in Dublin on an Irish Air Corps Airbus at about 6.30pm.
From there, McGovern was taken straight to the Criminal Courts of Justice where he appeared before three judges of the Special Criminal Court.
The father-of-two is accused of murdering Noel Kirwan at the height of the Kinahan/Hutch gangland feud just before Christmas 2016. Mr Kirwan was an innocent victim of the feud. He had no involvement in criminality.
Sean McGovern is also facing a number of other charges, including that he directed a criminal organisation to put a rival gang member under surveillance as part of an alleged conspiracy to have him killed.
He was remanded in custody last night and is due to appear before the court again next Thursday.
