A 45 year old man is due in court in Dublin this morning charged in connection with a 5 million euro drug bust.

The seizure was made after officers raided a number of drug distribution depots in Dublin and Meath.

5.3 million euro worth of cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy was seized along with Weapons and ammunition.

Five Irish and four Eastern European men were arrested.

Detective Chief Superintendent John Mc Mahon of the Garda National Drugs Unit issued a statement last night and said

"This seizure shows how organised crime gangs from Ireland and abroad are using the profits from the sale of drugs such as cannabis, to fund the importation of further drugs and firearms".

He also went on to thank the Police Service of Northern Ireland for their assistance in the operation.

One of the nine men arrested, a 45 year old, has been charged, and is due before the Courts of Criminal Justice in Dublin this morning.

The eight other men arrested in connection with the investigation remain in Garda custody this morning.

They're being questioned at Ballymun, Blanchardstown, Finglas, Clondalkin and Store St Garda stations.

An Garda Síochána says it's currently conducting a number of other ongoing operations to target the sale and supply of drugs in Ireland.
