A 48 year old man has appeared in court charged over a stabbing in Dublin's south inner city yesterday morning.

Rose Kenny was attacked at the School Street flats as she left for work at a nearby community centre, and remains in intensive care at St James's Hospital.

The 46 year old was stabbed repeatedly leaving her home at the School Street flats near the Guinness brewery yesterday morning.

Today Denis Leahy of no fixed abode appeared in court charged with assault causing serious harm - which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Detective Garda Richard Kelly told the court that the 48 year old moved back to Ireland a couple of weeks ago having lived outside the country for the past 8 or 9 years.

He said he arrested him at 9am this morning and that he had nothing to say to the charge after caution at Kevin Street Garda station.

There was no bail application and Judge Patricia McNamara remanded Denis Leahy in custody for a week when his case will next be mentioned.
