Longboat Quay Owners Threaten Court Action

Owners and residents at Longboat Quay say they'll take court action if they're forced to pay for fire safety works.

€4M needs to be spent on fire-proofing the docklands apartment complex, and those who bought homes there have been told they'll have to pay part of the bill.

The Environment Minister met with those affected this afternoon, who say - despite reports - they've only been offered three-quarters of a million euro to help cover the cost.

During a meeting at Leinster House, they told Alan Kelly that the DDDA and the receiver of Longboat Quay has not offered to cover €2.75M of the €4M cost as had been claimed.

Michael Ingle, an owner and a member of the management committee, said "this is not a problem of our making. The DDDA and receiver are responsible and it is up to them to come forward with a solution".

"If no meaningful response is forthcoming, then we may have no option other than to go to court", he added.

In a statement after meeting the Environment Minister, owners and residents said the Dublin Docklands Development Authority and the receiver 'are responsible' for the situation and have seven days to respond.

They say Minister Alan Kelly was 'helpful' - despite not offering any State funds - and said he was going to 'crack some heads' to get the problem solved.

The issue has also been raised in the Dáil with the deputy leader of Sinn Féin appealing to anyone who has a phone number for developer Bernard McNamara to give it to her and that 'she'd ring him herself'.
