Prisoners who are lesbian gay or transgender say they feel doubly-marginalised.

The Irish Penal Reform Trust has launched a report detailing the experiences of a number of LGTB people in our jails.

Lecturer of Criminology Dr Nicola Carr have said that the inmates feel their needs are not being met and that they are unable to access LGBT organisations, while in prison.

Another issue that was raised was that homophobia is a problem, particularly within male prisons and many in the focus group found that this caused them to be preyed upon.

Recommendations have been put forward by the IPRT such as providing services from the LGBT organisation and that prisons have single cells for the safety of all inmates.
