The cost of a residents' parking permit in Dublin city could increase to €225, a 350 per cent hike.
It's part of a review of bye-laws that would see the annual €50 fee brought more in line with the local pay-and-display charges. The permit cost hasn't increased since 2011.
One option being put forward by the city council is a zonal approach where residents who live closer to the city centre pay more. It would mean those living in a yellow zone, the most expensive areas to park, would see the charge increase from €50 to €225.
Whereas those living in areas with less expensive pay-and-display fees, such as blue zones, paying less.
Another approach is to increase the cost of a permit in line with any increases in parking charges in the future.
The proposals will go before councillors at a meeting this afternoon.
Croke Park
Meanwhile, public representatives are also being asked to decide whether paying for parking through an app should be banned around Croke Park.
It's part of efforts to discourage match goers from clogging up residential areas around the stadium, which has led to complaints from locals.
A 2 hour max stay had been put in place to deter people. However the introduction of mobile apps, that allow drivers to pay for parking remotely, had made the measure less effective.
