It's official: postcodes are coming to Ireland.
The cabinet has signed off on a system which will see every letterbox in the country given a unique seven-character code.
The system will be in place by the beginning of 2015, and will also include a public database to match postcodes to individual properties.
Dublin's existing postal districts will appear as the first three characters of the new postcode.
It's hoped that the new system will help services like ambulances to locate properties more easily and quickly.
