Hospitality Industry Confused About Guidelines Following Zappone Event

Sinn Féin says Leo Varadkar's attendance at an event for 50 people at the Merrion Hotel has undermined public confidence in health guidelines.

Fáilte Ireland advice is being redrafted after the Attorney General said it's legal to host outdoor events of up to 200 people.

There's a lot of confusion caused by the event at the Merrion Hotel organised by Katherine Zappone and attended by the Tánaiste.

Head of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins said he had no idea large outdoor events of up to 200 people could be organised for social reasons.

The Attorney General has said the regulations have been there since July.

Government TD Neasa Hourigan of the Green Party admits the communication has been a mess.

While Sinn Féin's Health Spokesman David Cullinane says Leo Varadkar's involvement hasn't helped.

Government Ministers have been silent this week, but there is deep frustration and anger at the handling of the Katherine Zappone saga, particularly in Fianna Fáil.
