CCTV cameras, to catch illegal dumpers in Dublin's north inner city, have finally been switched on.
They were due to be operational at the start of the year but a row over where to install the cameras meant they were delayed.
The north inner city is regularly labelled a litter blackspot by IBAL, ranking as one of the worst areas in the country when it comes to dirty streets.
Last year Dublin city council announced it was to install CCTV cameras in three areas - Belvedere Place, Sherrard Street Lower and Summer Street North - in a bid to catch illegal dumpers.
They were due to be added to existing lampposts, and go live in January, but there were concerns the poles could be vandalised, potentially knocking out traffic lights.
Solar-powered cameras have now been added to new posts, and have been switched on in recent days, according to the Irish Times.
