A homeless charity is filing a complaint with the Children’s Ombudsman on behalf of the 1500 children living in emergency accommodation.

Inner City Helping Homeless are also starting court proceedings against Dublin City Council and the State for failing to provide homes for people in need.

Over 2 thousand families spent Christmas living in a hotel room or B&B because of homelessness.

Some have only recently lost their homes, while others have been moving from location to location for a number of months.

Anthony Flynn from Inner City Helping Homeless, he says they're working with homeless families on the class action:

“We’ve alot of work to go through with the legal team over the next 24 hours. Then we’ll sit down with families and see how many families are willing to go forward in regard with taking the action and that will be moved forward through our office and our own legal team here”.

They’ve also lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman for Children:

“Children are living in unsuitable conditions. How that may scar them for life in regard to not being able to travel to school or not having proper facilities for washing and cooking and cleaning”.

The group say they’ll lodge papers with the high Court in the next two weeks, if that action fails, they’ll take it to Europe.
