Gardaí still trying to identify the gender of person killed in Mayo crash

Gardai are still trying to identify the gender of a person killed in a crash in Co. Mayo.

Motorist are being advised drive with extra care, as three lives have already been lost on Irish roads over the weekend.

Gardaí investigating a fatal crash in Co Mayo - say the car was engulfed in flames and they're still struggling to identify the deceased.

At around 1.30 yesterday morning, the car was discovered on fire on the Castlebar to Newport road at Cartoon.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have been travelling on the road on Friday night or who may have information to contact Westport Garda Station.

The RSA is urging all road users to remain vigilant today.

It's been one of the worst weekends on our roads this year with three lives lost.

Among the dead is a 22 month old toddler from Co. Donegal. The little boy died in what Gardai have described as a tragic accident, in the driveway of his home on Friday evening.

While a 27 year old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a truck on the Ennis Rd in Limerick yesterday morning.
