Two cases of the Zika virus have been confirmed in Ireland.

The HSE says the two are unrelated and the patients are both adults who've been to zika affected countries.

It's understood one of the adults is a man while the other is an older woman who is not at risk of becoming pregnant.

The virus causes a fever in adults but can cause brain damage in babies.

Fianna Fáil's health spokesperson Billy Kelleher wants the Health Minister to launch an information campaign.

He said: ''Leo Varadkar still has an obligation as the Minister for Health in the area of public health to make sure from his perspective that the authorities are active and they are aware of the potential concerns out there among the public.''
