Fire fighters in Dublin Fire Brigade are calling for better training to help them tackle emergencies in high-rise buildings.

SIPTU, which represents  workers at Dublin Fire Brigade, says more specialised equipment designed for tall buildings is also needed.

Dublin Fire Brigade says it provides specialist training modules and has brought in the latest equipment and techniques to respond to fires in high-rise blocks.

Firefighter with Dublin Fire Brigade John Mahon, says it's time to roll-out this best practice.

Mr Mahon, who's also a SIPTU committee member, says "High-rise buildings are not new in Dublin and they're increasing over the years. We need proper guidelines for our firefighters to follow, and for our officers to follow, and we look forward to management rolling out the standard operating guidelines that they've researched over the years."
