Fine Gael members on Dublin City Council have renewed their call for more highly visible Garda patrols in the capital.

It's after members have been 'inundated' with calls about anti social and violent behaviour.

Alleged assaults have also been reported recently, including one which is said to have included around 20 people and another in which an Olympian was injured.

Cllr Ray McAdam says it's got to stop, and it won't be stopped without extra officers on the beat as has been raised at past meetings:

"What we sought for a highly visible Garda police operation put in place across the city centre, that there would be more local policing initiatives but also that we would ask Government to look at increasing overall Garda numbers to 16,500 by the end of this Dáil term."

McAdam has this suggestion for Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris:

"We believe it's now high time that a dedicated Garda bike unit be set for the city centre, of 10 Gardaí on mountain bikes that can quickly and repeatedly travel across both sides of the city centre and maintain a visible presence."
