Fianna Fail says the Government has to take some of the blame for the assassination of a man in Drumcondra on Friday.

It says the reduction of resources in the Gardai is allowing criminals to run amok.

32-year old David Byrne was shot dead at the Regency Hotel while attending a boxing match weigh-in.

Speaking in Drumcondra today, Fianna Fail Justice spokesperson Niall Collins said regressive Government policies are giving criminals a free run;

Meanwhile Fianna Fail says it will create a sentencing Council if returned to power.

The Party says the time has come to impose harsh and severe sentences on those involved in the criminal underworld.
