Locals in Dun Laoghaire want an independent review of the cost of parking in the town.

Pay and display costs 1.50 for an hour and 15 minutes - and 40 euro a year for a parking permit.

The Dun Laoghaire Parking Action Group says many people feel parking should be one euro an hour while pay and display times should be limited from 10am to 4pm on weekdays.

The town has 4-thousand spaces.

Proposals for a smart tech parking scheme are currently being considered by the county council.

It involves sensors on car park spaces, which would provide live updates via an app.

This would allow people know how many spaces are available in the town and where they are.
