Dubliner Dies After Cork Assault

A Dublin man who died following an assault in Cork city on Thursday has been named as Keith Flanagan.

The man, in his thirties, is believed to have got involved in a row on Thursday night and later died in hospital.

36 year old Keith Flannagan -  originally from Luttrell Park in Carpenterstown in Dublin had more recently been living in hostel accomodation in the Capital.

He travelled to Cork where he's understood to have became involved in a row with another person on Patrick's Quay - where he was assaulted sometime around 10pm on Thursday night.

He was found collapsed and rushed to Cork University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for a brain injury, but he failed to regain consciousness and was pronounced dead early on Saturday morning.

Gardaí are refusing to release the findings of a post-mortem but confirm they are treating his death as suspicious.
