Dublin To Have Directly Elected Mayor Next Year

Dublin will today move a step closer to getting its own directly elected mayor.

Legislation will be published later which will clear the way for people to vote next May.

The proposed law will abolish Ireland's town councils, which cost the taxpayer around 310 million euro every year.

All 80 will be scrapped and transferred to County council which in turn will be divided into districts.
