Dublin Simon Community has expressed concern at a High Court ruling that puts the future of one of its homeless hostels in doubt.

The court ruled that Dublin City Council breached its own development plan, when it allowed the setting up of a centre for rough sleepers in the Liberties.

The emergency accommodation provides shelter for 51 people, and is jointly run by Simon and the Salvation Army.

Today's ruling came after local residents took a legal challenge against the use of Carman's Hall as homeless accommodation.

Simon says there is unprecedented demand for emergency accommodation across Dublin, with the numbers sleeping rough rising by over 50 per cent in recent times.
