Students from DIT have been getting their first look at the new campus in Grangegorman.

It officially opened today but lectures won’t be starting until next week.

Courses from Mountjoy Square, Portland Row and Temple Bar have transferred to the new facility.

Melda Slattery from DIT showed 98Fm News around the campus especially Rathdown House and North House, the two main spaces being used by students.

"This building has loads of these big high, ceiling spaces and down on the ground floor these two areas will largely be gallery spaces."

Ronan Doyle from the Grangegorman Development Agency says Rathdown House was still used as a hospital until last year.

"This building was occupied until May of last year so some of the main things you can actually see, the ventilation system, electrics, all the IT stuff put in and also windows, windows were a big thing."

While there’s broad welcome to the project, some residents say they felt sacrificed to make sure it was completed on time.
