A suspect device found in Carrickmines in Dublin has been made safe.

Gardai were called to the house in the Ballyogan area last night after the device was found.

They alerted the Defence Forces, which deployed the bomb squad.

The house and a number of nearby properties were evacuated and a cordon and road closures were put in place.

The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was taken to a safe military location for further examination.

All component parts and evidence will be handed over to the Gardaí.

The scene was declared safe at ten to eleven last night.
