There is expected to be a crackdown on outdoor drinking in a South Dublin suburb.

It comes as groups gathered on the streets of Blackrock last weekend.

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council says it is working with Gardai to tackle the issue and it will be putting up signs up around Blackrock to deter people from drinking alcohol in public spaces.

Footage

It comes as footage shows people gathering in the area last weekend drinking takeaway pints.

During the pandemic new outdoor furniture was installed around the village and its believed this is now an attraction for those who are drinking at night.

CEO of the Licensed Vintners Association Donall O' Keefe says this is an other example that the pubs need to open.

Gardaí say they are aware of a number of people drinking in public in Blackrock recently will use appropriate legislation where necessary.
