Residents in North Coolock want Dublin City Council to address a massive illegal dump that's appeared in a housing estate.

A plot of public land at the Moateview estate has been blocked off and is being filled with mountains of industrial and domestic waste.

Locals say the area has become infested with rats and the smell is affecting everyday life.

Many in the community say they fear for their health.

Independent TD forĀ  the area Tommy Broughan says, when waste charges were introduced, some people opted to use cheaper rogue operators.

But he says waste management is a very serious activity.

"First and foremost you've to try and protect the whole eco-system, the environment any waterways and most of all households." he said.

He added" It is a huge danger from every point of view."
