Child Dies from Swine Flu at Crumlin Hospital

A young child has died from the flu virus at a Dublin hospital.

The HSE says the 5 year-old had been suffering from H1N1 also known as swine flu. It's believed the youngster had the same strain which was responsible for the 2009 outbreak.

The child is understood to have been from the west of Ireland but had been transferred to Dublin for treatment.

Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Sligo General Hospital Dr Fergal Hickey, says there have been a high number of serious flu cases this season:
