An inspection of Cherry Orchard Hospital has found not one standard has been met at its disabilities centre.

All fourteen areas checked by the health watchdog earlier this year weren't up to scratch. There were 9 major and 5 moderate breaches in standards.

Among the issues identified; HIQA found appropriate measures were not in place to protect residents from abuse.

The inspection also found that fire containment arrangements remained ineffective and that staff training, and governance and management were not up to scratch.

This was the fifth inspection of this centre, with those in charge already told to address previous concerns.

HIQA has warned the hospital that, if improvements were not made, it could lose its licence.

According to the inspection report, there was "evidence of progress" since the last inspection, however inspectors said this was "not significant enough to bring about compliance with the regulations or to improve residents' lived experience".
