People are being asked to gather outside Bewley's on Grafton Street today.

It's part of a campaign to get the iconic cafe, that was first established in 1927, reopened.

The beloved coffee shop announced it was closing its doors permanently earlier this month, blaming the Covid-19 restrictions and €1.5 million in annual rent.

All 110 staff members have lost their jobs.

Damien Cassidy is organising the demonstration, which kicks off at 11am.

He said he hoped a way could be found to save the cafe, in the same way that it was saved back in 2004;

"There was such opposition to the close down of Bewley's and so many jobs that were dependent upon the continuation of Bewley's, that a way was found to keep the cafes open."
